What is Organic Farming?

From the beginning of agriculture to the prosperity of mankind, it became clear that the existing farming methods cannot continue.

So, a variety of ways to assist farming began to spread. Initially, the goal was to increase production. So humans began inventing various things related to agriculture.

Pesticides and chemical fertilizers, used for controlling pests and diseases, could be developed. In particular, the first chemical fertilizer was invented in 1866 by the German scientist Liebig. Analyzing the ash that was planted, we found that the plant showed remarkable growth as a result of the addition of elements such as nitrogen, phosphoric acid, and carly to the plant. It was called miraculous medicine at that time, and for about 10 to 15 years, growth was rapid and yield was greatly increased. However, as the soil loses its longevity and hardens, it loses air permeability, water retention, and warmth.

Because of the chemical fertilizer, microorganisms, insects and strange creatures living in the ground have all died. At the end, the land is acidified and desolate, causing more pests and anomalies. In the United States, which used the world’s first and most chemical fertilizers, it began crying for agriculture in 1910, and around 1936, 51% of all farmland was deserted. Dr. F. W. King, former director of the US Department of Agriculture’s Soil Management, said in his book “A Four Million-Year Farmer,” in 1911, that Korea, China, and Japan’s agriculture is a very good natural organic farming “. And he emphasized that organic agriculture should be practiced in order to revive American agriculture.

Until the 1960s, agriculture in our country was carrying out agriculture such as rotations, interlaced crops, and mixed crops in accordance with characteristics and circumstances in each region. (Organic farming system according to the principle of material circulation and life circulation)

In the 1970s, as the country entered a period of high economic growth, the state-led New Town Movement and agriculture modernization (agriculture ‘s chemicalisation and mechanization) progressed rapidly, and traditional organic farming of the past was hidden.

In the process of economic growth, simplification and specialization are accelerating, and the seedling division (rice, vegetables, etc.), which is the basic concept of organic circulation, Korean agriculture has become more dependent on pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Especially, in the Seomyeon area, problems such as environmental destruction, food contamination, and intellectual disability have appeared.

And It has caused a great social problem that threatens the life and health of producers and consumers. The specialization of the livestock industry separated from the seaweed sector produced livestock pollution by discharging manure into the rivers. In this situation, organic farming has emerged as the only alternative to solve the problems of modern agricultural pollution.
